Build a Stronger Business by Building on Your Strengths

At our last year-end review session, we have plotted your former client projects on an array of revenue vs. fun. I hope you enjoyed this exercise! Periodically, it is important to take stock of how your company has grown and developed according to its abilities. It is not just a chicken eggs produced, it is also looking at the environment as a whole or the whole farm.

Although there are dozens of factors to consider, in each company, here are seven key areas to be discussed at this session:
  1. Jurisdiction of basic skills; How did you develop in your career field?
  2. Business Development; What techniques and systems have you found to work well?
  3. New offerings; what products and services are now offering that was not available a year ago?
  4. New internal capacity; How your team grown? What are the new systems are in place to make operations flow of fluid on a regular basis?
  5. The new technologies; Have you upgraded systems, software, servers or networks? Have you started to use new tools and access to information in new ways?
  6. Improvements; How have you contributed to your community through sponsorship or volunteer work?
  7. Body of Work; Which articles, brochures, books, Web sites, audio programs, learning systems, etc. did you create to educate your customers and prospects? Continue adding to the list of ways that your company has grown as a result of your decisions and actions.
Not every entrepreneur is consciously energy in each of these areas every year. And unfortunately, this is one of the reasons why so many start-ups fail to grow and prosper.

Certainly, after serving in each of these areas every year is not required to develop. With your business coach or other trusted advisor, to determine which ones make the most sense for the current stage of your business and where you want to grow in the coming year. These are decisions you make.

Because you are serious about building a stronger company, you can look back on your efforts in these areas and feel a sense of satisfaction and pride in what you have done and how you grew up.

Next week I will share with you one of my favorite exercises in setting business objectives with you.
